EVENTS

Residents across the Lower North Shore are well known for their hospitality, community spirit, and ability to organize the greatest of community events! From December to April, communities host a series of hockey tournaments and winter carnivals. Ice hockey is our favourite sport, and fans will follow their teams to neighbouring villages to have a weekend of fun and exercise on outdoor rinks. La Romaine, St. Augustine and Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon have covered arenas. Tournaments are usually followed by evenings of local entertainment and dance.

Local carnivals have a similar night scene, but during the days include games and activities for all ages, outdoor shooting matches, and some of the greatest community meals you will ever taste! Various celebrations are held during the summer months, including festivities in honour of Quebec’s national holiday, St-Jean-Baptiste, in late June. Several villages celebrate this event, which involves a bonfire, fireworks display, and traditional francophone music. Canada Day is also widely celebrated July 1st with bonfires, local entertainment, food and festivities.
